New York Immanuel Collaborates with Jubilee to Develop Music Ministry
New York Immanuel Church and Jubilee New York began a partnership to launch a professional music ministry for the Bronx congregation.
The first step of the project is to form a new choir team with a vision for expansion. The Jubilee NY chapter conducted a rehearsal in January to select singers and instrumentalists. The choir has advanced from singing in unison to a three-part harmony by adding of more members of various talents.
Team members are practicing during the week in the sanctuary to prepare for all services. Choir members have expressed they receive grace through preparing the praise and worship together.
The songs they choose are mostly traditional hymns, rich in scriptural truth and austerity, and melodies that take the role of conveying the singers' emotions. With dynamic markings and various vocal timbres, singers can convey emotions such as "sweet intimacy" or "majestic glory" when praising the Lord. Although hymns can be repetitive, choir members learned to read deeply into the lyrics and sing expressively with their voices, filling every repetition with wonder and grace.
Immanuel and Jubilee are actively recruiting an experienced choral director and a skilled piano accompanist. The team aims to have 20 members by Easter and to consistantly improve in all roles and areas of the ministry.
"Music is the best sacrifice for the Lord and comforts people that are weary with trials and sufferings. We wish to strengthen the worship ministry to vitalize the church," said Pastor Huang, one of the leading ministers at Immanuel.
